Paintworks (previously known as 'Chor Li'), part of BC Paint Group of Companies, was founded by our grandfather Mr. Sguan Sanguanpiyapand in Bangkok, Thailand in 1945 to sell building materials. In 1955 we started importing Shinto Paint from Japan for premium quality homes. A few years afterwards we started our cooperation with China Paint Company Limited (Hong Kong) and open our paint manufacturing facility at our current location in Samrong-Tai, Samutprakan to manufacture Giraffe, Eco-Paint and Dokmai paint brands for furniture market.
After my father, Mr. Prasard Sanguanpiyapand graduated from University of Southern California in USA in early 1970s he decided to contact Sherwin-Williams, the No. 1 paint brand in the USA, to obtain the license to manufacture and market Sherwin-Williams paint brand in Thailand because he finds the paints available in Thailand at the time were both toxic and poor in quality with problems such as mildew, fungus, chalking and fading. Converserly imported paint such as Shinto, which we had been the sole distributor up to that point, were expensive and only have solvent based version which are high in odour.
Our family humbly succeeded in obtaining Sherwin-Williams licensee in 1978 and became the first company in Thailand to launch water based acrylic paint for residential homes, hotels, schools, hospitals and commcerical buildings. Currently we are Sherwin-Williams' longest serving licensee in the world with 42 years and counting. In 2015 and 2019 respectively Paintworks welcome two new paint brands into our product portfolio. The first is Sirca, one of Italy's top wood coating brands. The second is SherShield, American coating technology paint brand.

Our high profile customers include high end residential homes, commercial buildings, hospitals, schools, hotels and resorts as well as multinational companies.
